Bayonne City France. 50 Centimes. January 1918.

14 April 2024- Greetings to all coin, token, and paper money collectors, where-ever you might be. (Attention: This note IS NOT FOR SALE).  Another neat small note from a WWI participant.  An emergency money issue similar to the Kriegsgeld of Alemannia. Bayonne City was in the Department Basses Pyrenees.

Bayonne is located at the S.W. edge of France at the confluence of the rivers Nive and Adour.

Attention: This note IS NOT FOR SALE.

Note Type: Emergency War Money.

Note Size: 90mm X 63mm.

Issue Date= 30 January 1918.

Grade= Almost Unc.

Attention: This note IS NOT FOR SALE.

Nice photo of the January 1918 issue at Nouvilnumiscollection.

Reference: JP .25 - 55.

There were many different issue dates of this note design.  Plus many different 'series'. Heron's note is Series COO - Serial# 04,229.

Archaeological studies have confirmed the existence of a Roman fort

at what is now Bayonne.  Fort existed near end of 4th Century A.D.

Bayonne City is about 756 miles Southwest of Landau in der Pfalz.

**This Bayonne 50 Centimes note was included in the small collection that Heron acquired in late 2023.  Always fun to acquire different issues but in particular something other than an Alemannic issue.  Yes, collecting war-time issues is a fun category of paper money collecting.

Because there are so many different issues to 'find' and acquire. In addition, on the back of this note at center is an octagonal design and within that design is a depiction of a 3 masted sailing war ship.  All for numismatics fun for a lifetime!**

Atencion: This note IS NOT FOR SALE.
