I've started to sell some of the items i purchased decades ago.
I woud like to be able to write off what I purchased them for. Many will be at a significant loss, so I hate to sell something for say $500 that I paid $1000 for, and then need to pay tax on that $500, when in fact i should be taking a $500 loss (if I had the receipt), Many will say that I should have kept receipts, and that is true, but sometimes especially 20+years ago, I never thought past the day, let alone ever selling what I was buying.
I could get into my bank account history, which should show paypal or ebay transactions, but it wont show the item that was purchased.
Does anyone have any type of experience with this?
