I have a post that is requesting $1000 in gift cards to buy a tractor and it seems fishy since it's not actually on my ebay app. Is this common in the scamming community to do?

SCAM! Any ad that you find on another site, like Marketplace, that claim eBay handles the payment is a scam. They require gift cards, which are not traceable. Report the listing on the site you found it on.

That old scam has been around for years.
Report the ad to the site you found it on.

Yes, it's a common scam. If you didn't find the listing on eBay, it's not an eBay sale. Stop now.

Yes it's a very common way for a thief to steal money. eBay never assists in sales or payments of items on other sites. It has to be listed on eBay to be an eBay sale. There is no other way.
eBay will never tell you to pay with gift cards, ever. They are an untraceable way for scammers to take your money. You were wise to check first. It's sad but many do not and lose their money.

When you say you "have a post", do you mean that you found a listing for a tractor on another site and have been told to use eBay gift cards for payment and that you will be protected by eBay's MBG?
Simply put, it's a scam.
There is no tractor.
eBay gift cards cannot be used to make payment for purchases on other sites.
eBay does not offer any protection for any transactions on other sites. Why would they?
