Chase cards

This chase card thing has been bothering me for a awhile, I think this is the biggest scam out there. since the card that is displayed is usually a graded card as the card displayed for sale with fine print somewhere that reads that this is a chance to get this card. A chance maybe be poor words, better wording would be the seller determines who will receive the card, if anyone will. A chance would be an unopen pack or box that displays the odds and is sealed so that it is a true random selection. When the seller controls what card is packed it is not a true chance an borders on a scam. Ebay please do something about this.

"Listings that offer an opportunity to win an item by chance or contest are not allowed. This includes mystery items, giveaways, lotteries, sweepstakes, random drawings, raffles, and contests.

Listings that offer grab bags, "Box Breaks", or similar products must identify all the contents. Please note:

  • It isn't necessary to specify the number, quality, or condition of each individual item in the contents
  • Singling out any individual item with significant monetary or collectible value that “may” be included in the contents is not allowed "

Chase cards

@st-1458,

Since you posted the policy wording and know what is or is not allowed to be posted in a listing, if you find a listing that violates ebay's policies, use the Report item  button on the right, just above the Item specifics box. Make sure to call it a Chance listing.

FYI.  eBay cannot possibly check each and every one of the millions of new listings posted daily on the site to check for policy violations. They do depend on reports to help them remove inappropriate  listings or their sellers.

You can also use the link below to report a seller. First open the list of policies then report the seller.

Chase cards

@st-1458,

I had to look up what a "chase card" is. I'm assuming you don't mean the obvious, a credit card from Chase bank. In a nutshell, a chase [trading] card is one that is "desirable" for some reason, so collectors "chase" them.

https://ripped.topps.com/definition/chase-card/

Presuming that you are referring to what eBay calls a "chance" listing, usually called a box break by collectors, they are not allowed on eBay anymore, not at all.

The policy you are quoting is out of date, it was changed last year in mid-2023. Box breaks are no longer allowed, except for certain pre-approved sellers. And even they are not allowed to offer "breaks" as the card community defines them. They have to follow eBay's policy.

If you see a listing that is offering a "chance" to get the item, you can report it using the "Report Item" link on the listing.

Current policy:

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/chance-listings-policy?id=4311

Listings that offer an opportunity to win an item by chance or contest are not allowed on eBay.

This policy was updated June 14, 2023 and is effective as of July 18, 2023.

Giveaways and contests are strictly regulated, so we don't allow listings that sell a chance to win a prize.

What is the policy?

Listings that offer an opportunity to win an item by chance or contest are not allowed. This includes mystery boxes, giveaways, lotteries, sweepstakes, random drawings, raffles, and contests.

Case breaks, box breaks and pack breaks may only be sold by pre-approved sellers under the following conditions:

  • There is no element of chance involved to determine what the buyer will receive
  • Buyers receive the entire pack, box, or case they purchased
