This is the first I've heard of it, and something smells fishy about that. I've made several offers recently and have never been asked to verify my identity. I did have three days of checking I am not a robot, and clicking on photos that had stop lights in them. The only reason for a phone call I can think of might be for an offer on something over $10K.
