A button maybe?

Was just wondering if this is a button or something else? it's a similar size to a current 1p coin.

Can you show the back..does it have a shank?

The back has a marking similar in shape to my crude diagram, from memory. I will seek it out and have a better look

If it doesn't have a shank or sew-through holes, it probably isn't a button. Way back when, some "buttons" were used as embellishments and decorations. But there would have to be some kind of hole in it to sew it on.

My description of the pattern on the back was a little inaccurate. I have got round to finding it and on closer inspection, looks as though its a coin or token with one side being very worn.
