refunds

I cancelled an item after buyer paid for it because item is broken .Ebay took the refund money out of my bank account .Buyer has now opened a cancellation on the same item .Ebay is now asking me to refund the buyer twice .If they ask paypal to refund money do they get 3 refunds for the same item ? .Am I going to have to refund buyer 2 or 3 times ? .
