Vacation vs Handling time

Wondering which would be better. Leaving for a few days (2-3) either to put on vacation or move handling time to 3 days? Last time I used vacation settings my sale almost stopped for 3-5 months and items went so far back in searches I even couldn't find them. If I put 3 day handling until I get back  how long will it hurt mt dashboard? Just for those days gone or for the whole month or quarter? My listings now are 1 day handling and usually in the 1st or 2nd page searches depending how you search.

@oddnends1 Personally I use the vacation settings as a notice and extend my handling time.   That way I can have sales continue while I am gone and do not have to wait for the listings to re-index to the site.   

I do message buyers to make sure that they saw the away message to avoid any negative feedbacks.  This has worked well for me.
