Using 2 credit cards to pay for an item

OK, i was just told I can use more than one credit card to pay for an item.  If so, how to I do that?  Ebay says I owe $50.99.  When I enter the VISA Gift card it is for $50.00.  I get an error because there is not $50.99 on the card.  It doesn't apply the $50 and tell me I still owe 99 cents, so how do you tell them you want to pay $50.00 only and 99 cents on another?
