Selling item with retracted bids

I sold a iPhone yesterday at 4:22pm. And there was like 5 bids highest bidder was 455 second was 450 3rd was 214. Right at the last min the 2 highest bidders retacted there bids so it sold for 214. How is that fair. I lost buyers cuz of how high the bids where. The iPhone was a brand new iPhone 6 worth $500. Or the 3 bids were working together. Idk it's messed up
