Sellers falsely listing item location in US.

This is beyond frustrating and has been going on for a couple years now. You search for an item and want only US location. The seller has the item shipped from China (which takes weeks). How can ebay stop this?

If the listing shows a U.S. Item Location, but the seller actually ships from China or other non-U.S. location, eBay will allow you to open a Return Request before the item even arrives to you, using "not as described" and specifically "Item location misrepresentation".  When they verify the tracking shows shipping from a non-U.S. location, you will be refunded without requiring a return.

Quote from eBay team member:

Buyers can open a Return request prior to receiving an item, even in this situation. They will need to wait the normal 3 business day wait period before they can ask us to step in. At that point, we'll check for proof of item location misrepresentation, which will likely be from tracking information or member to member messages. If we can see that the item shipped from a different country, we'll decide the case in the buyers favor.

Sellers have gotten around that.  They use DHL eCommerce which when tracked will not show location. Nobody uses DHL to ship from NC to SC...    Ex.

Re: Sellers falsely listing item location in US.

The "US only" item location filter selects items that are listed as being in the United States; however, as you have seen, not every seller that lists items in the US ships from the US as they should. You can report such sellers for item location misrepresentation, but until eBay actually cracks down, your best course of action is to avoid such sellers entirely.

Before ordering you should check the estimated delivery dates -- that is usually a good indication of how far away items actually ship from. Also, going to a seller's profile page or feedback page will tell you where the seller's account was registered. Although some overseas sellers do use US warehouses to ship their items (and some US-registered sellers may employ overseas drop-shippers), if a seller is registered overseas, that raises the likelihood of an item shipping from outside the US, particularly for multiple quantity commodity items. Checking seller feedback will often reveal if there are problems with long shipping times, canceled orders or other supply chain warning signs.

When faced with a long list of search results that you want to narrow down to sellers that can ship quickly, using the "Guaranteed Delivery" filter will often help; very few sellers that ship from overseas qualify. That is a rough filter, though -- many domestic sellers may be filtered out as well.

If you do not see Guaranteed Delivery options in your search results, see here:

How does the buyer show/prove 'shipped from' non-U.S. location in this instance?

Thanks for tagging us @ferncliff-39, in this case the buyer can work with the shipper to get documentation from them. If we have proof it was misrepresented we can help out for sure!
