Appeal a case when the buyer sent back an item not In original condition shipped

Can anyone help me please as a buyer returned an item and completely tampered with it and eBay just took my $ and refunded them and now I'm stuck with something I can't sell and the value is no longer there. This is a $2000+ valued item I can no longer get my $ for. This is not right at all and I'm out $1500+ and my accounts now negative cause I do not except returns and well that didn't matter eBay just took my $ now in screwed. How do appeal cause I'm about ready to call my lawyer. I asked them to step in cause it was returned damaged and again they just closed the case have the buyer there full refund and now I'm screwed. Please help?
