what are these things

this is a pair of something, they appear to be brass have lions feet , they measure 6 inches tall,  and the  base is three inches in dia,  I have racke my brain , first I though candle holders without the top ,then  I thought some sort of bathroom fixture ,  So I decided to come here for some real advice and ideas,  on age and purpose,  Thank you all,

I agree with your first thought. They look like candle holders. You can see the ends of the screws like they screwed into the top piece. And I believe I see washers to hold it on. I have a set of brass magnolia blossom holders with tops that screw in that way with the washers. But also, like you, I'm not 100% sure. Good luck.
