What the heck is this???

Interesting owl, 2" long and 1.5" wide.  The material it's made with is an olive green and brown, I don't think it's plastic. with string in the middle.  If my memory servers me there is a material that begins with a "P" but I can't for the life of me remember what it is, and that is what this aterial reminds me of.  Is this a necklace from the 60's??  Thank you in advance

It looks kinda like polymer from the back, which when baked has a plastic feel to it, could also have a glaze over it too for shine.

Hi! “String art” or “pin and thread art” as it is also called was very popular in the 70’s. My grade school class did a project similar to this in 1970. Here’s a link about it from Wikipedia:

Bingo.... it is bakelite, I tested it, and string art works for me, owl designs were popular as well during that time period...thank you all very much
