For years, in costume jewelry, eBay has encouraged the abuse of the term "gold plated" over the more correct, "gold tone", as if they are synonymous. Only "gold plated" appears in pull down menus, title suggestions, and search refinement options.
Why?
By search criteria, "plated" appears in 1,647,150 listings in the jewelry category. Of those, 1,032,532 listings are in the fashion jewelry category - 70% by non US sellers, and by metal:
Metal see all
Alloy (120,297)
Rose Gold (2,098)
Silver Plated (203,147)
Stainless Steel (23,650)
Sterling Silver (110,539)
White Gold (826)
Yellow Gold (882)
Yellow Gold Filled (945)
So under the new policy, ebay will have to remove over 200,000 listings.
Please explain the changes ebay plans to make to item specifics to implement the new category scheme.

It gets worse. According to the new spring update "gold plated" is considered a Prescious Metal and should be listed in the "fine jewelry" catagory. I am sure the itrem specifics will be different, even if the change makes no sense.
