Is it necessary to have both QR codes on shipping labels?

There is the new QR code on the bottom of the shipping label, the QR code being essentially a copy of the USPS bar code, so I have read.

So it is going to be a problem for anyone along the USPS shipping route, if I scissor off the lower QR code and tape on the label as before, as a rectangle, since the new QR code is duplicated to the left of the of the alphanumeric address?

It's technically not a QR code. It's a USPS intelligent mail barcode. eBay added them per USPS requirements and you can see in the official USPS announcement that they include both barcodes.

It's not advisable to alter the label.

Is there a reason you need to cut off the lower portion @epsilon_publishing?

Is there a reason why the USPS needs 4 codes on their labels, with 2 of them being identical?

that extra square appeared about 3-4 weeks ago

I juts cut it off

there is a solid line just under the tracking number

that is the line of demarcation for me and I figure anything below that solid line is just extra stuff and makes my labels longer.

I am fast with  scissors and have always trimmed my labels to fit exactly on a 5 inch cube box

I use that solid black line as my guide

I read the PO announcement, thank you for the link. I will probably cut off the bottom, because my friends at the PO told me a long time ago to make sure the label is flat - i.e., if I am using a cylinder package, put the label sideways, etc...

Even if you remove it, you still have 3 different-format codes, all with the same tracking number. If there's a mistake then, it's human error, like when i asked for a PO intercept, both PO's acknowledged the application, but it was missed anyway.
