Seller requesting a refund but then not responding to messages...

I sold a Dansk pot for a very low price because it was damaged.  Photos were clear as was the description.  The seller now has twice requested a refund and has threatened bad feedback, but they refuse to answer my messages.  Is there a way to know if a message has been read?  Any suggestions on how to deal with this?  My phots and description was accurate - I feel like they are trying to rip me off.  Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Buyers don't have to respond to any messages.

Have they filed an INAD or just messaged you about the item?

Have a great day

I’m confused, your seller is requesting a refund? Well that’s a new one.
Or did you mean buyer? If you’re buyer opened a return case for a refund your only option is to accept the return and refund when the item is returned.
If the buyer is just messaging you for a refund, then let your buyer know you would be happy to refund upon return of the item. And leave it at that, and stop messaging them.
If they give you negative feedback you can report them for feedback extortion and possibly have it removed.

You don't have a problem until the buyer opens a return case.

Selling damaged items is always risky no matter how good your pics and description are.

Selling damaged heavy items for cheap with costly shipping is even riskier. If the buyer files a Item Not As Described return case, you are on the hook for the original shipping as well and the return shipping if you want the item back before refunding.

Hope they don't file INAD on this one.

@southport40

Oh my, that pot was in terrible shape especially on the inside where the enamel is worn off. This is not safe to cook in and should have been thrown away.

The OP seemed to be worried about negative feedback, which can happen without a return case.

To the OP:

There is really nothing a seller can do to force a buyer to respond to messages, file a case, or refrain from negative feedback.

I figured the OP already knew that neg feedback is possible.

Looking at that pot with the shipping cost in the listing was a real cringer. Shipping heavy items out of Maine is costly in a lot of cases.

The OP looks to be moving some product though. I wish I had a sell thru rate like that.

If it were my buyer, I'd send one more short and polite email.  I'd let them know that I am happy to work with them in this matter.  Please open a Request for Return and we can get this all resolved.

It is likely that they don't want to return the item and they just want the money back.  But it is important you state to them to take this option.  That way if they do leave you negative FB, at least you might have a fighting chance to get it removed, depending on what they say.

I know this is very frustrating.  Sometimes the hardest thing to do is wait.

The OP should have thrown away the pot and just sold the lid as a 'replacement'.

In this case, if and when the buyer opens a NAD return request, I don't think paying return shipping plus refunding the full payment is worth it.

I'd just issue a full refund once the case is opened. I'd also tell the buyer not to use that pot in the condition it's in but instead, dispose of it.

I looked at the listing.  This is what I would do.

If you hear back from the buyer about a return/refund, I would...

A)   Apologize

B)   Issue a full refund

C)  Let them keep the pot

D)  Learn from this and not sell damaged items again

This would  also be the option to try to avoid getting a negative feedback.
