Buyers not paying and cancelling

I have recently experienced a small run of buyers who make an offer, I accept and then they do not pay or they say they have changed their mind.  Also I have had items bid up and the winning bidder then also decided not to pay.  I thought accepting an offer and winning a bid was a binding agreement.  Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Buyers not paying and cancelling

Ebay deals with NPBs ( non-paying bidders for auctions and GTC buyers who don't pay) differently than previously. eBay now only allows sellers to cancel the sale with almost no consequences for the deadbeat.

It's better to let eBay do the cancellation. If the buyer complains, you can always say eBay did it.

Go here,

https://www.ebay.com/Cancel/Preference/UnpaidPurchase

You have three selections on this page.

1) Automatically cancel unpaid items. This should be set on.

2) Select how long buyers have to pay for items. Set this for 4 days.

3) Automatically relist canceled items. I leave this off as I prefer to relist using "Sell similar"

Now when a deadbeat doesn't pay after 4 days, eBay will automatically cancel the sale (although they will send you a message saying YOU canceled the sale). You will not receive any charge for fees, all feedback will be removed (and no new FB allowed), and the buyer will receive an unpaid item strike (so says eBay, but that's another story).

Don't forget to go here,

https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

and set "Block buyers who caused" to 2 and "cancellations of unpaid purchases within" to 12 so the strikes will have best effect for you. Don't forget to add the deadbeat to your BBL on this same page.

You can go here,

https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/blockedbuyeractivities

to see how many times the system blocked deadbeats from buying your items.

HTH.

Buyers not paying and cancelling

Ever since ebay changed their policy of doing away with opening unpaid item cases, I have had the same problem. My listings state 'payment due within 48 hours of purchase', but NO ONE is paying within that timeframe. Never used to have that problem. So I cancel the txn after 48 hours & report the buyer (per ebay advice). Ebay automatically adds them to my blocked list.

Buyers not paying and cancelling

Hi Deadbeat here (4000 positive reviews)

I routinely buy things and then message the seller if I'm buying a second item in auction that say might end just after that 4 days and they ALWAYS say that it is alright to not pay until the second item ends; that way I have a workaround for the sometimes ridiculous postage (especially that Global Shipping scam).

The problem with automatic ending is 1. that it might affect my future ability to buy...and yes I know that I can contact eBay...but I won't do that again, as the people I usually speak to seem to be a bit too stupid to understand some very basic concepts, and

2. it makes me not want to buy any more items...so that basically will reduce YOUR revenue by 50%.

Just something to think of when you turn off options for communication.
