Help need with a vintage Faria RPM Hundreds Interceptor Tachometer

Was this for a car or boat?  Do you know what year it's from?  I contacted the Faria Company but never heard back.   I want my listing to be accurate.  I also want to be able to get the best price as I'm selling it for my elderly neighbor to help him out.

The base of the front face plate reads:  Patent Pending Thomas G. Faria Co. New London, Conn. U.S.A.

Appreciate any help.  Thank you.

Car seems unlikely as it only goes to 5000. It could be a stationery engine.

Reading further, they made tachs for everything and everyone: boats, planes, industry, military, you name it.

4,598 Faria listings on eBay right now.

Thank you.  He thought it may have come from a boat but he wasn't sure.

Not for a boat. A boat tach usually has a cylinder select switch on it. It may be for a six cylinder diesel engine seeing it only goes to 5,000 R.P.M.
