how can i stop automatic bids?

Have paid for a few things that I wouldn't bid soo high on. ALL my fault! It must be set on something that has it bid more than I want it for. Please tell me how to limit it. Kinda scared to buy anything else. Help?

You are the one who sets your maximum bid. Enter only the amount you are willing to pay for the item. It will not go above that amount.
