OK not jewelry but need help!!! Bought this in a lage lot of jewlery. Didn't go a preview the auction befoe it stated - just bid on the lot. This was mixed in the lot. Do you think this is a mini purse size ash tray? Smells smoky - I left it outside to air out. Measures 1 and 1/2 inches square. Thanks for the help in advance.

Those are commonly referred to as pocket ashtrays. Most of the ones that I have seen are ad pieces. I have one now that I had forgotten about. LOL! I guess I should list it.

My mother smoked in the 50's and I don't remember her carrying one but does make sense to have one. I'm going to list it later this week but right now I have it outside to air out. Not sure if collectors would be interested but really appricate all the help on this. Going to post another question on something else i bought in this strange lot.

I would used both terms as keywords. My Mom smoked when I was young and her pocket ashtray was ceramic in the shape of a fan. The little handle on yours makes it look like a miniature silent butler which is why I would use that term.
