Help with folk art ring

Can anyone give me some good keywords for this ring--it looks like maybe prison or folk art and definitely handmade.  Also, what do you think the material is?  It sort of looks like MOP.

Laminated (Coral &) Shell Ring?

Thanks OCN --which part do you think is coral?  The black?  It does look like shell on the band and maybe the raised center piece?

The black maybe but also the speckled at the point of the center stone. Around the outside of the stone it looks like shell but the image looking downward has the appearance of coral of some kind 😕

I agree . The top portion , the pointed part , looks like the tip of a coral branch . Especially the speckles .
