Anyone know my Daddy? It's signed but whodunnit?

museum replica, but????museum replica, but????DSCF8903.JPGDSCF8901.JPG

She's on the alert, whoever she is! The figure looks like a female gryphon and the dangle is a locket.  The serial number on the back says A 090 and the maker's mark looks like a cojoined W and H with a B Co.(mpany) under it.  I'm assuming it's a museum replica, be bedarned if I know whose.  The gryphon was probably sculpted when it was pretty cold out. 😄  Maybe dark too - got her headlights on!

Harpies have womens' heads on bird's bodies.  This has the back half of a lion.

Well done OCN.

In the Worthpoint ad, the seller is calling the figure a Sphinx, but did not identify the mark.  The Sphinx mark is different than the one shown in ev's post.

Yup. As if they were a part of a group, each individually numbered. Had me chasing down Daughters of the Sphinx and Krewes last night.

What's driving me crazy is I've had pieces with that mark before and knew what it was then.  There's something about the arrangement of the letters that's a little different.  I think they're out of order or something the way the DTR (Desert Rose Trading) mark is on silver jewelry.

I see more Assyrian than Egyptian about her. Winged sphynx sounds like some Northern European's idea rather than an Egyptian one. Which makes sense.  She reminds me of a Victorian mystery clock, which would have a clock in the pendulum.

I've seen that Worthpoint ad before.  No idea why I couldn't find it again.  I think the number means it was one of a limited run produced.  Seen that before on another piece but don't ask me where!

Searching google for Limited Edition Brooches I found this similarly numbered Brooch.

"1994 Museum of American Folk Art Jack Rabbit 3D Pin Bunny Brooch W/Enamel"

I know.   I have one of those too, and could never find more than what's on the pin.  The same manufacturer probably made both, but didn't leave any breadcrumbs.  Probably a jobber alas.
