Anyone able to identify this symbol - Asian?

Hi - daughter and I have been through just about every alphabet and cannot tell what the symbol is on this Sterling stick pin.

Any idea?  Thanks!!!!

It's not a kanji AFAIK though it looks like one; the numeral 4 makes me think it's some kind of awards pin. The symbol does ring a vague bell, but too faint to identify.

Looks a little like the Maker's Marks on Arts and Crafts era Items /Furniture.
