wrong shipping on my listing

Each time I create a new listing, it seems to take the shipping option I selected for the listing prior, and I have run into problems with undercharging for shipping and have been burned quite a few times.  I also noted that if you work off of someone else's listing, it automatically selects their method of shipping for you.  Sometimes you can over look the shipping or estimate incorrectly, so I guess my question is can each consecutive listing I create, not be bound by the one that came before it, as if Ebay created a template for my listings.  I believe each listing should start with an absolutely clean slate and require that you put in each option for each category, unless you choose "create template" as your method of doing work.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
