mailing ebay printed postage items

If I use ebay's postage, can I just drop the item in a mailbox?

yes but ....

the post office told me that it is not a good idea to do that with anything other than 1st class packages

also, it might "ding" your shipping record because things in the post office box (you are talking the outside boxes) can sometimes take a day or two to get scanned

post office told me if it fits into that mail chute it can be dropped off in the box

p.s. I had to come back and add that all my packages are picked up from my front porch which is a secure area - and I have not had a problem because my mail box is on my front porch (old neighborhood where the boxes are on the front door - you don't see that in many newer houses)
