Good until cancelled debacle

Does anyone know how to revise  their listings so that they don't keep rolling over and costing $0.30 each time?  I had no idea when I initially listed them that I'd be charged every month and no way to turn it off.  I've never paid insertion fees as I'm always careful to only list as many items as I can for free.  Now, not only am I incurring charges, I also have to go out and manually "end" each listing when something sells as the system doesn't do it automatically.  Pretty frustrating....EBay is not only getting richer by having this auto-relist system but now they are making us do more work too just to get rid of a sold item!
