To avoid this issue, you can list as Buy It Now with the immediate payment required option turned on rather than listing as a auction.
Be sure you are taking action when buyers don't pay. Here's how:
If a buyer hasn't paid by day five, select the cancellation option in the dropdown next to the order using the reason that the buyer hasn't paid. The buyer will earn an unpaid item strike on his account. Two or more and his ability to buy will be limited or even ended.

Scroll down that page and turn on the option to auto-block buyers with 2 or more unpaid items within 12 months. That will help to protect you from repeat offenders.
