Is it important to return the item from the same address at which it sent to when purchased?

Suppose that a person in the state of California purchased an item, then upon receiving the item, he was traveling on the same day to another state for a vacation. For example, if he discovered that he needed to return the item while on vacation, could he return it from the nearest post office to him, or should he resend it from the same registered address when the item was purchased.

And

If he actually left before the item arrived, and when it arrived he asked one of his family members at home to open the item which he found out that it was not as he wanted it to be and he decided to return it, is it permissible for someone from his family or neighbors to ship it instead of him or his name must be written on USPS shipping label?

They could ship it from anywhere pretty much.

It doesn't matter who ships it back as long as the return is done through the buyers account.

Have a great day.

Why the barrage of hypotheticals today? What is your end game? 🤔

Return shipping label will have all needed to/from info preprinted on the USPS "return service" label.  Dropped off at any post office or picked up by the carrier to be returned to the address provided on said label.

As long as the return label was printed from the buyer's account it doesn't matter who returns it or where it's returned from, as long as the end result is that the seller receives it.

Perhaps you should present your question as a "What if". Lol

@dakbat-61 ,

"Is it important to return the item from the same address at which it sent to when purchased?"

It could be if the location the buyer returns the item using a label sent by the seller, is being shipped from  a different postal zone than their home address. The seller may then have to pay additional postage in order to receive it.

  Did your hypothetical buyer consider using scheduled pick up by the Shipper?  Or if the package is small enough to fit in their mailbox, they just put it in and raise the outgoing mail flag.

"If he actually left before the item arrived, and when it arrived he asked one of his family members at home to open the item which he found out that it was not as he wanted it to be and he decided to return it, is it permissible for someone from his family or neighbors to ship it instead of him or his name must be written on USPS shipping label".

The buyer presumably would have a device, phone/tablet/laptop on a trip with them, they could use to contact the seller telling them they want to return the item, and would like a refund.  Unless the seller has a no returns policy, in which case they do not have to accept a return for Buyer's Remorse reasons, one of which is "It's not what I wanted". which is something a buyer should research about an item before making a purchase.

  If the seller allows the return, a friend/family member could put the buyer's name and address in the return portion of a label.  After all shippers do not verify who places an item in a mailbox, drop off bin at a P.O. or store, even when it is taken to a counter clerk. Haven't you ever mailed an item for a friend before?  If you did, were you asked to verify that you were the person whose name was in the return address space?
