nicole@ebay and any other interested members--
I've noticed over the last several days that using the return/enter key after the end of a paragraph inserts two returns (aka a double spaced line). Generally when one hits the return/enter key, it simply advances one line immediately below the previous text, but now the software seems to be entering two.
Example:
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. <return/enter>
Takes me here . . . a double space away from the previous sentence. It is impossible to delete that second return. If I use the typical, traditional two returns after a paragraph, it now inserts four line spaces:
Like this ^^^^. That sure leaves a lot of empty space between paragraphs.
Is it just me? Have I hit a formatting button unknowingly? It appears to be happening on a few other posts I've read, but maybe other posters are noticing it and deleting that extra return, as I've been doing.

Others are having the same problem.
Something has changed recently about the way that newlines are being treated; even old posts are affected.
You should be able to insert a single newline using shift-enter as a workaround.
That should allow single-spacing as above.
There was some discussion about this on the private Mentor board (no link, I'm afraid).

Khoros tweaked the BBC (bulletin board code; the subset of HTML that is used on this forum) so that paragraphs are formatted with double-spacing between them. Before, paragraphs were formatted with single-spacing between them, so you had to press [enter] twice to get double spacing (which would create a blank paragraph: <p> </p>).
I reported the [shift]-[enter] work-around a few days ago; that inserts a line-break HTML code <br/> instead of paragraph codes, so that is single-spaced like the general text is.
Here's the HTML source code for the quote of your reply, to illustrate this:

Not all that uncommon to have double spacing after a paragraph, does make it easier to read and have seen it on other sites as well. Now, if people knew how to use the return button we often would not be staring as the wall of run on text.

Of course there should be double-spacing after a paragraph. but (IMHO) it shouldn't be automatic. I shouldn't have to undo the typing muscle-memory that I picked up in (gasp) 1963.

I didn't say it was wrong to have a double space between paragraphs. That's the common way to compose a multi-paragraph post. What I'm addressing is that ONE RETURN now creates a double space. That is not the expected way for the return key to act. One would expect hitting the return key twice to produce a double space, not FOUR LINE SPACES.
Re-read the original post for the first explanation of the experience I'm posting about.

Why would the source code be of any interest to me? All I'm concerned with is the actual outcome and the. IMO, inappropriate change made by whoever.

How can we get them to un-tweak it? Posts are looking weird.

The source code was the evidence for what I was saying. Just ignore it, if you want.
Posting it shows what has changed, so that if nicole@ebay and sheila@ebay want to ask Khoros to change it back, they can see what was changed: the formatting that is associated with the paragraph tags <p> and </p> .

If you (or other readers) use Facebook, you might be familiar with two apps that "clean up" Facebook programming: F. B. Purity and Social Fixer. I wouldn't use Facebook without them.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a programming-type person create an app that would fix all the shoddy programming and/or decisions they force on us with this Community software--whether those changes originate with Khoros or the Community Team. I'd pay a monthly fee for anything that would undo or override some of this junk. Maybe that app could even create an "ignore" button, @nobody*s_perfect! 😉

Thank you @lacemaker3 for providing a screenshot with the work around for code. I will add this information for the ticket and hopefully that will help this issue get resolved quicker.

Ok for me it was a bit later, but still the same thing on how I was taught. 🙂

Isn't it customary for a responding Community Team member to tag the originator of the thread--especially when I tagged you in two different posts to bring you into the thread for your advice and expertise?
Why would you tag another poster and not me? And why would you reply to another member and not me, when I'm the one who started the thread?
