Seller fees paid on SALES TAX as well??!?!? Dafuq Ebay??

Yep. Check it out. Did anyone notice that the 15+/- percent you pay in seller fees is also charged against shipping... AND SALES TAX collected by ebay??  We pay fees on TAX!!  We don't get the tax. We don't pay the tax. But we pay FIFTEEN PERCENT fees on that sales tax collected??

WHY??

Ok, shipping I can maaaaaybe see, back a few years ago when people were charging 99 cents and $35 shipping since there was not fees on the shipping charges at the time.  but then ebay started charging fees on the shipping as well.

Well, NOW they also charge sellers the seller fee on SALES TAX.

Been here since 1997 and it's getting harder and harder to be a part time seller...  Glad other marketplaces are popping up...

@suthnr

Quick answer, they base their fee's on the total amount the buyer paid, just like other payment processors.

Have a great day.

As did Paypal-- although PP's fee was only on the payment they handled -- that is 2.9% for US sellers, 3.7% for Canadian sellers (yes, "Internet" sales taxes, really state sales taxes, are also applied when the American customer buys from a foreigner).

B&M merchants also pay credit card fees (from 2% to 10% are common) on sales taxes on the goods they sell. This isn't even a flat rate, but is usually based on the average value of the sale.

A merchant selling $10,000 a month in 1000 sales will pay MORE in fees than a merchant with only two $5000 sales in a month. Small comfort that neither PP nor MP does that.

Welcome to "capitalism".

Yes I just found out about eBay charging sellers a 15% sale commission on Sales Taxes that they collect and pass to States of which sellers never get a thin dime out of these revenues... Unbelievable, totally unjustified and very unfair.... Yes they want to push sellers off their site with criminal amounts of money deductions.... What's the next shoe to drop.... Pushing everyone to the outer limits...

ZOMBIE THREAD FROM JUNE 2021

The problem with zombie threads is that the information and advice may be out of date and misleading.

And many tag-on posts evidently have not read the previous posts which may actually give the information needed. In this case in Post Three.

The state of Missouri at least kicks back 20% for remitting sales tax on time. So they get 20% back. And I know they don't pay full price to USPS, UPS or FedEx. It's very profitable to  be eBay.
