Ok I have been around enough that I thought I would know this. But I need help.

I sold an item and shipped it via Fed Ex.

Customer contacted me stating it was not received.

I contacted Fed Ex as they show it was delivered and opened a case.

Their driver contacted the customer who said the item may have been stolen from the porch.

Since both I and Fed Ex did our job, I told her she will need to contact eBay regarding the INR and open a claim, in which she did.

I promply defended and won.

Here's my silly question. Does eBay refund her or is she out the money?

She is now contacting me asking if Fed Ex ever gave me money for the insurance of the package. I don't think Fed Ex would since they delivered it and it disappeared after that.

Even if they did, it's none of the buyer's business.

It's THEIR responsibility to have a SAFE place for mail to be delivered.

And if eBay was going to issue her a "courtesy refund" that would have been done when they closed the claim in your favour.

Your buyer did not get a refund.

Your buyer cannot leave feedback because the case was decided in your favor.

FedEx won't pay.

Insurance is only if it is lost in transit - not after it is successfully delivered to its destination.

Was the package insured and was it insured by the shipper or a 3rd part insurance provider?

I don't usually ship parcels nor use shipping labels, but this past week I have noticed that on my (Canada Post) labels I can choose the option NO SAFE DROP.

This tells the carrier to leave a Notice and not to leave an unattended package.

I've made a note to myself to use this on every package from now on.

Surprisingly, Canada Post does not charge for this service.

Do FedEX, UPS and USPS also offer this choice?

I know they all have options to require the carrier to leave a notice rather than drop the package off, though I don't know the exact details of how it works. I've lived in this house for 34 years and never had a package stolen, so our default instructions are for them to just leave things on the porch.
