Ebay fees getting out of hand...

I don't know about anyone else, but these eBay/PayPal fees are getting out of hand. I'm a small startup business and barely getting by, I can't afford to pay all these added fees! I can't afford to pay monthly and annual subscription fees to a store so I can list all of my products on ebay so I just don't. Meanwhile, I'm selling on Etsy and they're half the fees (7.2% to be specific)! Ebay is charging me 13.6% off the top of every sale and they don't even advertise for us in google unless we pay some ridiculous additional marketing charges!

EBAY, YOU ARE LOSING BUSINESS BECAUSE YOU PRICE GOUGE

Why are you paying 13.6% in fees to Ebay? Most sellers are paying 10% or less.

Re: Ebay fees getting out of hand...

ebay and paypal are the same company and they both take a cut. Combined, this is 13.6%. Gotta look at the whole picture.

Ebay sold Paypal nearly a year ago.

Re: Ebay fees getting out of hand...

The final value fees haven't changed, but the store and marketing fees are compounding. I can't list more than 50 listings a month unless I upgrade to a store. I can't upgrade to a store because its too expensive. Big selling products from high volume sellers may make the store worth the fee, but a small new venture like me... I'm up a creek and no ability to expand unless it is done outside of ebay.

eBay and PayPal are separate companies.

PayPal's final value fee is 2.9% (plus 30 cents) for domestic transactions. It's difficult to see how you can say the combined eBay and PayPal fees are over 13%.

Re: Ebay fees getting out of hand...

Ebay used to own Paypal. The stock and companies split last summer. They are totally separate except for some lingering agreements made as part of the split.

I think you have that turned around.  E-bay sold Pay Pal a year ago.

Two completely different companies.  Sorry.

Re: Ebay fees getting out of hand...

So let's separate out the payment processing since you need that on both sites.

Etsy is 3.5% on the selling price only. Ebay is 10% on the total processed. Etsy is much cheaper.

However I barely sold anything when I listed on Etsy. So all my effort was pointless. I had no buyers. If you're selling well there, by all means take your sales to Etsy.

Re: Ebay fees getting out of hand...

I think what you wanted to say is ebay fee 10%(and if the buyer)uses PayPal it costs 2.9% with a total payment to the to separate companies of .12.9% The charges obviously going to 2 different sources (1) ebay (and if used by the buyer) (2) 2.9% too Paypal.
