I know it's not pottery - type of stone?

I know this is not pottery or glass, but this has always been my go-to board and I just wondered if anyone knew what type of strange stone this bear was carved from. Super heavy, it’s red with almost lichen type green set into clear areas. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Hi- It looks like onyx (possibly stained). I have to add it looks more like a frog than a bear.  I hope my opinion helps...

I know - especially from the side.  Looks more recognizable head-on.  Thanks for the suggestion. I will check out carved onyx.
