These Hand Carved wooden sculptured Decoy Ducks,were used from early 1800s in North America.Mostly carved from whatever wood was available,best were pine -cedar,most readily available.Most Duck hunters carved a rig of 8-15 of each type of Duck hunted.Some carved 150 for off shore hunting.Others used a rig-called a gunning tub,with a dozen or so on all sides of tub.Back in early 1800s a dozen decoys were sold for $12.00..That same dozen today by certain carvers -would push the price well over $1,000,000..In past 60 years ,many books have been written on these.Since the early 1980s-decoys have been rising steadily,with the McCleary Auction at Sothebys in New York a few years ago.Aprox 800 decoys sold for a bit over $11,000,000....Collectors that have been investing in Paintings,now have been adding Rare old Decoys to their Art collections...A Rare Pair of Mergansers just sold for $375,000.........Its been a great Hobby.........Welcome your ideas-input,on Decoys from all areas.........Have a great Day.
