Sporting Relics----Wooden Duck Decoys

These Hand Carved wooden sculptured Decoy Ducks, were used from early 1800s in North America.Mostly carved from whatever wood was available, best were pine -cedar,most readily available. Most Duck hunters carved a rig of 8-15 of each type of Duck hunted. Some carved 150 for off shore hunting.Others used a rig-called a gunning tub, with a dozen or so on all sides of tub.Back in early 1800s a dozen decoys were sold for $12.00..That same dozen today by certain carvers -would push the price well over $1,000,000..In past 60 years ,many books have been written on these.Since the early 1980s-decoys have been rising steadily, with the McCleary Auction at Sothebys in New York a few years ago.Aprox 800 decoys sold for a bit over $11,000,000....Collectors that have been investing in Paintings, now have been adding Rare old Decoys to their Art collections...A Rare Pair of Mergansers just sold for $375,000.........Its been a great Hobby.........Welcome your ideas-input,on Decoys from all areas.........Have a great Day.

Re: Sporting Relics----Wooden Duck Decoys

Question: I have recently become interested in "Dux Dekes" decoys. The company is family owned and has been in business since 1987. http://www.duxdekes.com/artistinfo.html Gary, what is your opinion on the quality and artistry of these decoys? Is there any collector value in them? Thanks, Lynn :x
