barter coins

Could someone tell me what a barter coin is.  I had found a listing of American Silver Eagles and with the description it said barter coins. 

Are they the same as Silver Eagle Dollar Coins.

I am just guessing, but the ASE was probably damaged, so not really colletable.  Some people buy silver to barter (trade) for things should currency someday become worthless.
