eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

Is there a list of all the categories and subcategories that allow eBay standard envelope shipping?

I know all the requirements for the item specifically as seen in the two links.

eBay standard envelope | eBay

eBay standard envelope

I want to know what categories and subcategories these items have to be listed in.

In the past I have listed under the categories below.

Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop > Sports Trading Cards > Trading Card Singles

Collectibles > Non-Sport Trading Cards > Trading Card Singles

I am able to both list and print an eBay standard envelope in these two categories>subcategories.

It is my understanding from reading many other threads that some of the category>subcategory combinations do not work even if the item meets the requirements.

Is there a list of all the categories/subcategories that do allow eBay standard envelope?

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

You can add coins and collectible postcards to your list. It's easy to get into trouble by adding a second category to your listing which then prevents the item from qualifying for the standard envelope, for example adding some historical paper category to a postcard listing.

@kds99

Thank you for your reply.

When I say subcategory, I am referring to a category within a category.  Not a second category.  Ex. Collectible category, Postcards & Supplies subcategory.

As far as I can see the only way to list a postcard is either of these categories.

Collectibles > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards > Topographical Postcards

Collectibles > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards > Non-Topographical Postcards

All of these subcategories of Coins & Paper Money should quality.

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: Ancient >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: Canada >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: Medieval >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: US >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: World >

Coins & Paper Money > Exonumia >

Coins & Paper Money > Other Coins & Paper Money

Coins & Paper Money > Paper Money: US >

Coins & Paper Money > Paper Money: World >

I will assume none of these subcategories of Coins & Paper Money will quality.

Coins & Paper Money > Publications & Supplies >

Coins & Paper Money > Stocks & Bonds, Scripophily >

Coins & Paper Money > Virtual Currency >

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So far it looks like this is the full list.

Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop > Sports Trading Cards > Trading Card Singles

Collectibles > Non-Sport Trading Cards > Trading Card Singles

Collectibles > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards > Topographical Postcards

Collectibles > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards > Non-Topographical Postcards

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: Ancient >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: Canada >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: Medieval >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: US >

Coins & Paper Money > Coins: World >

Coins & Paper Money > Exonumia >

Coins & Paper Money > Other Coins & Paper Money

Coins & Paper Money > Paper Money: US >

Coins & Paper Money > Paper Money: World >

Should I assume if I list any category/subcategory outside of this list that I will not be able to print an eBay Standard Envelope shipping label?

How about this one?

Collectibles > Militaria > Current Militaria (2001-Now) > Original Items > Challenge Coins

I am currently listing an item in this category and wondering if I am going to be forced to send it via First Class Shipping label which would cost considerably more than an eBay Standard Envelope label.  ($4.00 or more versus $0.53)

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

I had the same list from customer service. But as of June 23, when I sold five cards in the Collectibles > Non-Sport Trading Cards & Accessories > Trading Card Lots (183051) category, I could not print a standard envelope. The error said the category is not eligible. The customer service agent I spoke with confirmed that it was not eligible, but could not tell me why. I like the option, but it is very confusing to figure out what categories are eligible, especially if eBay is going to change it on us. Making matters more confusing, when I create a listing, it always allows me to select the standard envelope shipping option, whether the category is eligible or not. I'm not sure how I am supposed to figure out what's eligible and what's not.

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

@chance_falconer

"Lots" have not been eligible because they can easily include more items than allowed in an envelope and eBay would not be able to automatically discern whether a lot could pass through USPS letter handling machinery.

Keep in mind that a first class letter is limited to 3 ounces and the contents must easily bend around the routing maze that exists in USPS sorting machines. My test is that the envelope must be able to bend around my coffee cup.

I'm surprised sealed trading card "packs" are allowed on 4/27/2022 because they could conceivably be too stiff and non-machinable, and could thus be rejected by the sorting machinery.

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

Thanks. My big problem is the communication and consistency. If lots are not allowed, then why would the "Trading Card Lots" category be listed as an eligible category? And why have I been able to use a standard envelope with the category before, but not this time? As for the idea that "lots" can include more cards than can be included in a standard envelope, that's seems an unnecessary restriction. eBay says up to "15 raw cards" can be included in a standard envelope. More than that, and it will be more than 3 ounces anyway, so you couldn't purchase a standard envelope label in the first place. As a seller, I'd like to use this option to keep shipping costs down for buyers, but it's difficult when the rules are not clearly stated anywhere and seem to arbitrarily change. Customer service reps I've spoken with typically seem befuddled about the rules too, and often are little help.

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

I have had same problem when creating shipping method for my Promotional Music Postcards.

Ebay "allows" you to create the listing. Ebay lets you think you can use this method. It is a postcard, which fits in the classification. Once the postcard sells, eBay puts its hand out for $3.76, to send it USPS First Class, and does not list eBay Standard Envelope as an option. I refuse to pay them for their "technicality", which always seems to benefit them only!

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

Has eBay given any update to this? I really don't understand how this issue has not been addressed with a clear and definite understanding of each category. Especially if eBay is going to list the following:

  • No more than 15 raw cards per package per envelope

Trading Card Singles is the only category I have found that will allow me to use their Standard Envelope. What category can I use to allow eBay Standard Envelope and "No more than 15 raw cards"? As of July 14, I'm getting an error message with the following when trying to edit my listing.

It looks like you're listing multiple cards, but you have selected the Trading Cards Singles category. Please change the category to a more appropriate one. If you're listing a single card, make sure you don't use any keywords indicating multiple cards in your title.

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

I'm having the same problem.

Had 2 chats and 1 phone call with ebay on this and the rep doesn't understand the nuance.

But they did confirm that trading card SETS and LOTS are no longer eligible to use standard envelope shipping.

That's a huge problem for me...

Re: eBay standard envelope categories and subcategories

I have the same issue with Stamps.  2 agents and online help couldn't figure out why, how, and which postage stamps can or cannot qualify for Standard Envelope.  One agent said that "Collectible Stamps" do not qualify, but the item I sold was just postage stamps.  Technically I don't see any difference between sub-categories of stamps as long as it fits the size and weight?  The eBay instruction/description page of Standard Envelope is unclear on this.  As others have commented, eBay should not allow Standard Envelope on the listing it doesn't qualify (size, weight AND category or sub-category), especially in the AI age.
