Hi, would anyone happen to know the maker of this colorful Italian pitcher. It appears to be of terra cotta. It measures approx 8" in height. Does the "z" mean anything. Thanks in advance.

It's Italian mid century majolica, and the body is terracotta. A mark of Z (with a wavy slash through the middle of the letter) on Italian pottery indicates Zaccagnini, but this style of design and the letter mark don't match.
The Z may be a 2, but if it's a Z, here are a list of your best bets:
The style of your piece is very much like of Fratellini Fanciullacci, but they usually have an F or FF mark.
Yours is a good example of mid century Italian ceramics, (aesthetically, it got pretty weird there for a while.) And if there are no flaws or repairs, it should fetch a decent price.
Look up the online forum of Walter del Pellegrino. He's sadly passed, but his wealth of knowledge and tips is still available for your research. If you're going to find the maker, I'll bet it's via Walter's site.
