Buyer and I resolved return request but buyer won’t close open request

This initially was ignorance on my part: I sent the wrong item but immediately let the buyer know, and he was kind and I shipped the correct item and he sent back what I had accidentally shipped. Now that the action has resolved, he hasn’t closed the return/refund request. I never dealt with something like this, as the buyer won’t return emails or messages, and I don’t want to be anymore of nuisance since I already delayed his order. I’m wondering, if he doesn’t close the request on his own, will I be forced to refund the funds even though we worked it out and he has the right item? I got in touch with eBay but they said the buyer has to close the request to confirm everything is alright, but I haven’t gotten in touch.
