Kutani dish with lid

  • Hello,
This note was inside, can someone confirm that this was made for Lord of Satsuma? Also, can you please see if there is a coat of arms/ emblem of Shimazu Family in the pattern? Decorating is very high quality, any information would be appreciated, 6 1/2” x 4 1/2”. Thank you!0CCAF266-E94C-4547-9DC7-578605E06F3D.jpeg4FC16B50-033D-46CB-A90B-90C55EEE955A.jpegB4EE0668-2091-44E7-8E51-BC4BAAE236D6.jpeg3DD48288-AECC-4509-B1C8-2B30CDBF45E5.jpeg5DA69224-817D-4E37-9484-A8F47C30CAE6.jpegAFFA8D46-C1CD-4BDE-A69A-73A405C52B99.jpeg

I searched for the mark on google images/google lens. This is your picture, cleaned up a bit.

The mark is 九谷 , which means Kutani.

I'm afraid that you would need more documentation that just a handwritten note to prove the provenance that this belonged to the head of the Shimazu family at some point.

There are also honorific marks to take into account.

I agree @lacemaker3 .

If the piece was made for someone (or a family) of great importance, you'd expect that prestigious origin to be reflected in the/a mark.

Regardless of the provenance, it's very nicely done.
