I've filled UPS and FedEx trucks to where not another package would fit.  Several times a week for years.
And I've never seen so many false upgrades by FedEx and UPS as I have in the past few months.
Never thought the day would come when I would pay a few dollars more to ship with USPS.  
But, that day arrived two months ago.
I now avoid FedEx and UPS unless I really have no feasible choice.
   Still getting shipping label adjustments.  Refunds, from USPS.

Use the same scales and the same tape measure.   
FedEx and UPS increase the price.
USPS refunds.
   Ugh

Sorry to hear that. I don't mess with FedEx but use UPS quite a bit and have never had an upcharge from UPS that I can remember.

Pricing is what is driving me more to USPS GA these days but on the large/heavy shipments, UPS still wins those shipments. Same with the expensive items, UPS gets those.
