I found this little portrait in a free box at a garage sale and was curious if anyone knew who this is supposed to represent? It is hand painted and something is written on the back but I can’t make it out. The frame is approximately 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide.

The pencil writing on the back is using the French spelling of Jane--"Jeanne." It has a look of age to it. Wish I'd find something like that at a yard sale. 🙂 A jeweler (or pawn shop) could test the metal for any gold content. I wonder what the image is painted on...porcelain, ivory? It's lovely.

Iwould say there is zero gold in that brass frame but it does look original. The star of the show is the stunning portrait on porcelain. Could be ivory but I cant see enough to tell.

Wow, that's a lucky find! A few years back I found a miniature like that at a yard sale. It was priced for 50 cents! I carefully opened it and found it was a sliver of ivory. I ended up selling it for around $300!
