Why would eBay send managed pay payments to an account they said they could not verify?

I decided to sign up for the managed payments and use a small savings account I have at the credit union.  I received a message saying that I was on board for managed payments.  The next day I got a message saying the account could not be verified.  It appears you can't use a savings account.  So I am now trying to to set a small checking account with the CU.  Then, today, I get a message from eBay saying they have sent money to the savings account, including items I was already paid for thru paypal and have sent out?  What gives here?  How can they send money to an unverified account?
