text-only email

Why not text only? My email preference is text only - not HTML. I have reasons. Why does ebay need HTML to communicate with me?

From an email I received 6/22/2021, 6:42 PM:

Hello xxxx,We have an important message for you. However, your communication preferences are set up to accept text-only emails, so we couldn’t send it to this email address.

Go to Messages in My eBay. You’ll find the email there, but you’ll need to copy and paste the link into a browser window to view it. You may be prompted to sign in to your eBay account.

To receive emails from eBay to this address in the future, change your communication preferences to HTML in the Account section on eBay.Thanks,

The message was that my account was blocked because of suspicious activity (ebay finds a VPN set to California to be suspicious?), so I can't log on to get the message that my account is blocked.

Is anyone thinking these things through?
