do Make an offer (say 10% off) they counter with $1.00 off list price.

Same boat as you...now that eBay must collect tax for TX I am starting
to buy less as it is not necessarily the best deal online. That coupled
with sellers who think all buyers are out to scam them....and sellers
who can’t put out detailed item descr...
