Whenever I reply to a message either on my laptop on in the iOS app
(6.179.1.1), the reply shows as a new message rather than part of the
same conversation. I'm replying in what should be the thread but
immediately after replying, my reply disappears...

All 3 of my sales since about 6am this morning are all pending payment

There was a change months ago where the item won’t sell until the person
actually pays for the offer. So someone else could come shopping and buy
it at full price in the meantime if they’re slow in paying. Their offer
would then be canceled.
