Wow, what a first day! eBay Open 2017 kicked off with an action-packed schedule of live interviews at eBay Radio, Pop-Up sessions, networking meet-ups, and of course, a warm-and-welcoming Happy Hour. Sellers from 48 states and eight countries showed up to learn and celebrate.

If you couldn’t make it, here are all the highlights so you can stay in the know. Be sure to check back every day this week for more recaps on the eBay for Business blog, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

If you were in Vegas, scroll through and see if you can spot yourself amidst the colorful backdrops, neon selfie signs, bicycle charging stations, and rainbow hairdos (we’re looking at you, @ebetsy)! And, when you’re snapping those social-worthy shots during the event, remember to use the hashtag #eBayOpen2017.

Pop-Up Session: Community

eBay offers a unique advantage over other selling platforms—its diverse, engaged, and supportive Community. Sellers had the chance to meet with members of our Community Team (Griff was there!) about how our social streams can help grow their businesses and keep them informed. Here are some of the best quotes we pulled from the discussion:

“It’s great to connect with eBay team members, always.”

—Carlo Salgado, Sims Recycling Solutions

“From an eBay staff perspective, we actually do think you all are rockstars.”

—Brian Burke, eBay Director, Voice of Seller

“If it’s not for [eBay], we couldn’t do what we do.”

—Laurie Ann Wong, Reflections of Trinity

Networking at the Agora (and Beyond)

On the exhibit floor, we’ve designed a gathering space like no other. We called it the “Agora,” an ancient Greek word that means “public open space used for assemblies and markets.” Appropriate, right? With areas for meet-ups and interactive activities, a mini-amphitheater for conversations that spill out after workshops, and space for stop-and-chats spread throughout, the Agora takes networking to another level.

This afternoon, Sellers used the space to network based on their locations. The groups met at designated areas in the Agora and represented the regions of California, the Rest of the West,  the Midwest, the South, and the Northeast.

Overheard at Regional Meet-ups:

  • 2 Sellers from California chatted about the challenges of selling internationally
  • 6 Sellers from the Midwest shared photography tips
  • 3 Sellers from the Northeast discussed finding your niche
  • 3 Sellers from the South talked about inventory management
  • 2 Sellers from the West bonded over photos of their families

We closed our last day with some less structured networking—a Happy Hour reception where Sellers could mingle with eBay Leadership and team members.
