Edwardian dress.

Hello, I have a wedding dress made of silk from 1916 and it has some small spots, someone knows how I can remove them if it is recommended to wash?

Edwardian dress.

Sometimes it works out okay, but 100 year old silk can also shatter and shred into a big mess if immersed in water. I'd respectfully leave it alone. (Remembering the silk and lace Edwardian bedjacket I destroyed trying to wash)

I would also leave it alone. BUT I would suggest using a towel or sheet to line your sink if you do choose to wash it. You would use the towel/sheet to lift the dress out of the water before filling with your rinse water, and when lifting out after the rinse. You would lay the towel/sheet and the dress flat to dry. Silk is extra fragile when wet.
