Is this celluloid box for jewelry or collars? or ?? help please

This oblong shaped box has a lovely celluloid decoration with cupids and flowers and garlands..the inside is velvet with an area that reminds of me the boxes my mother had for her pearls. Or could it be for a gentleman's collar? thanks so much

Beautiful!  I think it's way too deep to be for pearls or necklaces because of the wasted space the box would have.  I definitely think it is for ladies starched collars, which you would want to store without getting it crunched up.  It also looks as though it had a handle at one time.

Also, are you sure it's celluloid?  The pictures look like Wedgwood, but I know how deceptive photos can be.  But if you google Celluloid and how to test it you will know for sure.

Thank you so much.. the oblong shape had me confused..as did the missing handle with no sign of a clasp. I knew it couldnt be a purse..:-)

It does have a wedgwood looking design but the feel is definitely more like paint over cardboard...not like porcelain
