Was looking at some coins listed buy it now with prices that seemed to good to be true.  They were all listed for $745 and included a 14-D 1c MS62, 79 5c MS62 and others.  In doing a previously sold search for the same item found they had been sold recently by other sellers for the same amount and all sellers had a negative feedback score for items not being received.  Reported to eBay but they did not seem to care.  Don't know if it is okay to give seller ID's so i won't.  Just be carefull and do your homework on deals tha STGTBT.

All buyers, of anything, should research first.  Also know from whom they are buying.

And, if it sounds too good to be true it probably isnt.

Best thing perhaps is to buy from established sellers that have very good 'feedback' or reputation.

If it is a rare coin, I would buy it from a reputable dealer.

I won't buy a coin that catalogs more than $200 unless it's slabbed by NGC or PCGS.

I perfectly understand that coin buyers/sellers should be very cautious. Years ago I bought a Indian Head Gold Eagle IN PERSON.  Within a month I discovered my coin was a well made copy (with real gold) of the  coin...supposedly made in Arabia. I was fortunate enough to be able to return that coin.  Since the Chinese seem to replicate EVERYTHING from antiques to coins, one must be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when making on line and even in person purchases.  I consider myself a bust half specialist and those coins seem to be plagued with Chinese fakes...BUT the fakes are AWFUL and POORLY MADE. I can can spot them a mile away. -- So what to do?  Learn and educate yourself is the 1st step. Learn about the composition (some metallurgy is helpful). Look carefully at the date and alpha-numerics...they are a dead giveaway. -- With that said, you can protect yourself to a certain extent.  Crooked sellers will soon be exposed....go with reliable sellers. Like I said before....fakes existed BEFORE the internet and eBay...but now they are more prevalent. Protect yourself with knowledge and caution. Deal only with reliable dealers.

The US Treasury guards the authenticity of its products like a rabid dog.  Doesn't matter if it's a 1793 Chain Cent or a 2019 Proof Set, counterfeiting will get you hard time.  This idiot got more jail time than most manslaughter convictions.
